Challenger

site overview
The Challenger gold mine is located 750 km northwest of Adelaide and is one of the most remote mines in Australia.
Challenger was a virgin gold discovery made by Dominion Mining & JV partner Resolute Resources in May 1995. Dominion purchased Resolute Resource’s 50% interest in late 2000 and the site is now owned by Kingsgate Consolidated Limited.
The mine successfully transitioned from an open pit to underground during 2004 – 2005 and is now solely an underground operation. Ore is trucked to the nearby processing plant which currently process nearly 450,000 tonnes per annum.

I worked there for a few weeks doing install & commissioning work. It was a couple of hours flight from Adelaide on a small plane. The camp is walking distance from the mine site. It's a small site and everyone was really helpful. There wasn't any mobile phone reception but they did have Telstra pay phones available. The wet mess was pretty good and the beers were cheap.
