site overview
The Paroo Station mine is located 30 kilometes west of Wiluna township in the Mid West region of Western Australia. Paroo hosts one of the worlds only pure lead carbonate deposits and has been in operation since 2005. Fully owned by Canadian company Ivernia Rosslyn Hill is part of the Energi Group of renewable energy companies that focuses on the development of resources for renewable energy.
Ore is mined using the open pit method then processed at the nearby Processing plant. Once processed the concentrate is then pressed and dried. It is then placed in two tonne double sealed bags and sealed in sea containers for shipment.
The village is located 3km from the processing plant and employees are bused to site daily.

I worked at the Magellan mine for 2 years in the maintenance department. Magellan mine is small with a small open pit set up and processing plant. Its by no means a large operation but has had more problems with stop and go that you can point a stick at. Magellan has only operated for a few brief months n its operation and due to not having solid business basics in place is under government scrutiny a lot. The people were great though and they paid their management pretty well. Not so much their ground workers but that pretty much goes for most places. Magellan is a nice place to work but the camp is average, no where near a larger company standard and still has the box type rattle air cons. No mobile reception too which made things hard.

Magellan is a funny site. Lead plant where you constantly have to wear a face mask. When I was there the crew was good and the social side was the best I've ever been making some friends I still stay in contact with. Pretty much the only reason a stayed so long. Good for new comers as well, pretty easy to get a job here and being a lead plant it's good to learn the safety side of that. Plant is a good mix of crashers, mills, pumps and flotation which is good to learn
The bad points, it's a LEAD mine which isn't the best health choice. Blood tests every month and just the constant wearing of the masks especially in the heat when your sweat collects in the mask. Site having a large turn around makes it hard to have a proper system with everything. No mobile reception is really bad for staying in contact with love ones. Rooms are bad with shared en suits and noisy A/C.
If you need a job it's a good place to come and if your green and need to get that experience behind you it's worth it. Otherwise I'd have a good think about it.

Great site. Loved working here in admin. Really enjoyed the people

I worked at Magellan for a few weeks doing Drill and Blast design. I wasn't impressed with the site at all. The camp rooms are very disappointing and below the standard expected now days. Shared onsuites that rarely got cleaned and terrible tv reception. There were next to nill after work activities and it seemed some employees working for the client tried to get some events but were never really supported by management which was dis heartening.
The work group were great though. But most got dismissed when they shut down for the third time. Would not work there again.

I worked for ISS at Magellan for 6 months i enjoyed the site and the people were nice good catering budget and support from Magellan however was with all catering company's the wages were poor compared to other employee's.

Probably the worst place i have worked. Lead is nasty stuff and you have to wear face masks and coveralls all the time. Also getting blood taken monthly just sux. The camp is out dated and just boring.
No phone reception at all unless you stand on a rock. No job security as they can not keep the place open

One of the worst mines in Australia and regularly shut down due to extremely poor management. The only bonus you can get by working there (if you are not the high grading GM) is free contraceptives due to lead exposure and malnutrition. Occasional fights at the bar, after hours break and enter rape (2014) and known as the only mine that had an STD outbreak so large it had to be reported to the Dept of Mines. Friendly folk though and great comradery if you can handle the constant needles, job uncertainty and unmaintained roads.

Don't bother wasting your time at this place. Lead is very dangerous and the long term health implications are severe.
Magellan mine site is a good place to work with an even better camp life. It has two grinding mills 3 thickeners and a filter press..... Reasonably small work place which is good if you want to climb the ladder quickly. Non smoking and clean shaven site because of the lead carbonate and also you have to wear a P3 mask everywhere on the plant itself which is annoying during the summer months.
I'm still working here at the moment but we've been in care and maintenance for a whole year so far with no end in sight.....
