Apex Minerals owns and operates the Wiluna gold mine. Wiluna Gold mine is located approximately 2km from the township of Wiluna.
The mine consists of an underground operation, processing facility, BIOX plant and village.
Wiluna Gold mine has been mined since the 1900's and produced some 4 million ounces of gold.
I worked at the Wiluna gold mine for a few weeks in 2010 just filling in. The mine was about a 5 minute drive from camp. Apex has just brought a new fleet of Nissan patrols and most of the underground equipment also looked pretty new. They had Atlas Copco drills and Tamrock trucks. The processing plant had undergone a few upgrades and used an interesting method processing the gold ore by using BIOX bactira or bugs as everyone refured to them as to eat the sulphide from the ore. The people we all really nice and had a few good laughs down at the wet mess.
Spent 5 months on site recently giving the guys a hand with the Engineering and the place is definitely on the mend. Has not got the best rep at the moment but things are picking up. The new management seem to have things getting back on the right track. Still got a way to go with gear being one of the biggest issues, maintenance was not kept up and the equipment is in need of some TLC. The best thing about the site at the moment is they are are happy to get people in to sort the issues out. Has a good roster and good crews so generally is a pretty good place to work.
This place is a disgrace to industry. Workers dont get paid for weeks sometimes months on end. The management are absolute jokers.
Never will you find a place that wants to negotiate when you will get paid. Offerings of shares that are worthless is just another kick in the face. Stay away from Apex if you have a mortage
